Fissure Sealants
About This Service
The deep grooves and pits on the chewing surfaces of molar teeth are highly susceptible to decay because food and bacteria become trapped in areas that toothbrush bristles cannot reach. Fissure sealants seal these vulnerable areas before decay can develop.
The procedure is quick, painless, and requires no drilling β a thin resin is painted onto the tooth surface and set with a curing light. Sealants are most commonly applied to first permanent molars around age 6 and second molars around age 12.
Sealants provide effective protection for up to 10 years and are monitored at each check-up appointment, with reapplication if they show signs of wear.
